NHS Selection & Dismissal Procedures
1. Notification of Warning
Purpose: This letter informs members and their parents of standards not being met within the
NHS chapter, such as criteria related to scholarship, service, or character.
Process:
● Members are placed on a warning status and provided a time frame to address
deficiencies.
● During the warning period, members may have certain privileges revoked.
● Failure to meet terms by the end of the warning period could lead to further action,
including a hearing or dismissal.
2. Due Process Hearing Notification
Purpose: If a member does not meet NHS standards after the warning period, they may be
subject to a due process hearing to assess the need for dismissal.
Process:
● A formal letter notifies the member of the hearing, specifying reasons for the hearing
(e.g., continued academic deficiencies, character violations).
● Members may attend the hearing with a parent/guardian and can choose to provide a
written statement if unable to attend in person.
3. Due Process Hearing Agenda
Structure:
● Introductions: The adviser, faculty council members, the member, and parents are
introduced.
● Proceedings Explanation: An adviser outlines the hearing’s purpose: to allow the
member to present their case.
● Member’s Statement: The member can respond to deficiencies noted.
● Q&A Session: Faculty council may ask questions for clarification.
